Traveling with just my phone camera: finding freedom in simplicity

As a lover of photography, my Camera has always been a must-pack item for every trip. But recently, I decided to leave it behind and rely solely on my phone camera—a decision that initially felt unsettling but ultimately led to a newfound sense of freedom.

Leaving my Camera at home felt like leaving behind an old friend. On the first day in Pula, I kept reaching for it, only to realise it wasn’t there. It felt strange, almost like I was missing out on capturing the best moments of our trip. It almost felt awkward without the familiar weight of the camera, and that my phone wouldn’t do justice to the vibrant scenes around me.

But as the day went on, I began to relax. Without the burden of equipment and the pressure to get the perfect shot, I found myself more engaged in the experience. I was free to wander, explore, and simply enjoy the moment with my partner.

Using just my phone camera allowed me to focus on what truly mattered: the experience itself. Not distracted by having to setting up shots and more time savouring the sights, sounds, and each other’s company. The simplicity of my phone camera made capturing moments easy and spontaneous, without interrupting the flow of our day.

Without the distraction of my camera, I was more present with my partner, which I'm sure benefitted us both. We laughed, explored, and connected in a way that felt more authentic and less driven by the need to document every detail. The experience reminded me that travel isn’t just about the images we take; it’s about the memories we make and the connections we share.

Traveling with just my phone camera was a lesson in simplicity. It allowed me to fully immerse myself in the experience and strengthened my connection with my partner. Sometimes, less truly is more, and the most important memories are the ones we carry in our hearts, not just in our photos.
