The Messiah and Hiccups
So few quick snaps.
Below are a couple of some quick snaps of my phone, which I took on the way into Salisbury Cathedral to listen to the Handel's Messiah, performed by the London Sinfonia and Salisbury Cathedral Choir, what a magnificent performance in such a beautiful building, a place close to my heart.
But last week wasn't without a couple of technical hiccups, as I will explain...
In the previous week of my photography adventure, I encountered a slightly challenging experience— a failing hard drives, a misdirected recovery drive and consequently missing files disrupting the carefully curated Lightroom catalogue. This blog recounts the events, highlighting the pivotal role of automated backups in salvaging the situation to a reasonable level.
The Initial Setback:
The prospect of a failing hard drive loomed, posing a threat to erase my photographic history and potential data loss. So a replacement hard drive was provided under the support agreement of my laptop.
The Hunt for Missing Pieces:
Post the installation of almost everything on the new drive, and whilst navigating my Lightroom library, I discovered unsettling gaps where images once resided, intensifying the challenge of reconstructing my visual narrative.
The Crucial Discovery: Automated Backups:
In the midst of troubleshooting, the normal lifesaver failed to surface —automated backups I had momentarily forgotten, turned off during the drive replacement. In my haste I had overwritten my first copy of my photographic library. My secondary copy did not have the proceeding two weeks of lightroom edits.
Rebuilding and Reflecting:
Restoring the vast majority of photographic library abiet the missing latest updated file that i worked on to get this site up and running, from the automated backup became a moment of reflection, transforming setbacks into opportunities for refining my workflow.
A Lesson Learned:
This journey highlighted the indispensable nature of automated backups, reinforcing their non-negotiable role in my creative process.
Conclusion:
In the unpredictable realm of digital creativity, broken drives and missing files evolved into valuable lessons, underscoring the significance of preparedness through automated backups.
